Guest Author Interview: Kelly Gay

Please welcome today's guest author Kelly Gay!  Kelly is the author of The Better Part of Darkness, and The Darkest Edge of Dawn.

EJ:  When did you begin writing?

Kelly:   I began writing with career intentions over fifteen years ago, but back then I was mostly writing screenplays and plays (and a ton of unfinished novels). I made the switch five years ago to focus solely on fiction, on finishing a novel, and then trying to get published. I ended up writing six of them before I finally sold.

EJ:  What brought you to the paranormal genre?

Kelly:   I’d have to say my grandmother and mother. They introduced me to the paranormal when I was a child. They told me all kinds of fantastic tales about fairies and faraway lands. All the stories I told or wrote as a kid had paranormal elements in them, and that just continued throughout my writing life. It’s just natural to be drawn to this genre. I’ve never written a story without some type of fantasy element, and I couldn’t imagine writing without it.

EJ:  If you could be any paranormal or have any one supernatural talent, what would it be? Why?

Kelly:   I’d be a goddess. :D Because as a god, I’d have many talents, many powers, able to do many supernatural things. See, in my mind, gods can travel through time, appear and disappear anywhere at will, command one or more of the elements, and live forever. Yep. I’d be a goddess all the way.

EJ:  Tell us why readers will enjoy your new release.

Kelly:   It has a bit of everything: action, adventure, fantasy, a little romance, and drama with a slice of real life issues thrown in the mix. It’s about relationships, wanting to be connected to others, not always making the right decisions, but the heart is always in the right place. 

EJ:  If your book(s) were being made into a movie, who would you cast for the leading roles? Why?

Kelly:   I haven’t really figured out my male characters yet, but Charlie, in my mind, most resembles Kate Beckett on Castle. They have similar looks and personality, and a kind of strength and a no-nonsense air about them. But they also know how to laugh, too.
