Guest Author Interview: Sharon Buchbinder
Please welcome today's guest author Sharon Buchbinder! Sharon is the author of many novels including Kiss of the Silver Wolf.
EJ: When did you begin writing?
Sharon: I have always been a story-teller. As a child, I got into a lot of trouble for "making things up." Now, I get rewarded for making things up. I love being able create heroes and heroines that people can relate to--even crazy cat ladies, as I did with CATASTROPHE, my first publication with The Wild Rose Press (WRP). I've been writing fiction since I was in middle school and have the rejection slips to prove it. In high school, I even submitted a script to "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." on yellow-lined paper in pencil. Not surprisingly, that was rejected, too. (David McCallum, now playing "Ducky" on NCIS, used to play Illya Kuryakin on the "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." I had a major crush on him, part of the reason I wrote the script. LOL!)
EJ: What brought you to the paranormal genre?
Sharon: I cannot recall a time when paranormal events have not played a role in my life. I have always accepted this alternate reality that many others do not experience or recognize. Their disbelief doesn’t dismiss my psychic experiences: dreams that come true, that I think of someone–and that person calls, and that I knew my sister was pregnant before she did. In the 1970’s while a psychology major at the University of Connecticut, I participated in telepathy experiments using the now famous J.B. Rhine Zener cards and other images. My “hit rate” as a receiver was statistically greater than chance occurrence. I lived in a haunted house during my undergraduate years and heard the ghost who lived there. She would mimic my roommates’ voices and move things around to get our attention. It worked. I’ve heard/felt other ghosts/entities. Curiosity and pragmatism took me down the paths of psychology (BA), neuroscience (MA in Psychology), Nursing (AAS) and finally, public health (PhD). So, it’s really not surprising that I’ve gravitated to paranormal romance as one of my favorite sub-genres to read and to write.
EJ: If you could be any paranormal or have any one supernatural talent, what would it be? Why?
Sharon: What a great question! When I was little, I wanted to be Carol Ferris, owner of Ferris Aerospace and girlfriend of Hal Jordan (aka Green Lantern) and Queen of the Star Sapphires (DC Comics). She wore purple (my favorite color), was as tough as Green Lantern---and was powered by love. She could fly, kick ass and had free will. That my friend is what an empowered supernatural woman can do! I even dressed up as her one Halloween. Sadly, no one knew who I was supposed to be, so I missed my mark. LOL.
With respect to spookier, non-comic book powers, I have to say that I would love to have telekinetic powers. Because I hate to have to go across the room to get something once I’m settled in at my computer. It would also be helpful if you were being mugged or trying to protect someone else. A definite all around great talent--with good control, of course. There might be a temptation to be a show off. Like, “Hey, you need some help changing that tire?” That might get old. And tiring.
EJ: If your book(s) were being made into a movie, who would you cast for the leading roles? Why?
Sharon: If Kiss of the Silver Wolf were made into a movie, I would love to have Kate Hudson star as Charlene, who is smart, tough, and loyal to her brother. Kate has played a lot of comedic roles and I think she could play a serious role, with touches of humor thrown in. The guy would have to be Leonardo DiCaprio. He’d make a perfect werewolf. LOL!
Kiss of the Silver Wolf by Sharon Buchbinder
When Charlene Johnson's parents die in a single-car accident, she's left behind as guardian for her severely disabled older brother. When her father's death is ruled a suicide she is forced to move to the sleepy rural town of Eden, Kentucky, the very place her mother always warned her about.
From the moment Zack Abingdon sees Charlene, he knows she's the one. Despite the electrifying bond between them Charlene senses things are not all what they seem. Secrets within secrets unfold, and ultimately Charlene has to make a life and death decision between rejecting her true nature and accepting her place within the wolf pack.

We once lived in a house that the entire family swore was haunted but I never experienced anything. I think the ghost either liked me so didn't want to scare me, or didn't like me so didn't want to scare me. Would love to win a copy of your book.

Sounds like a great story. As one who writes nonfiction ghost books and done paranormal investigations, hearing about your ghost and more is always fascinating to hear.
ReplyDeleteI've been reading a lot of vampire stories so this would be a great change and a chance to have a new read. I'd love to try Sharon's book. Please count me in =)

Hello everyone! What a lovely turnout! EJ knows how to throw a party. LOL.
ReplyDelete@Daniela--Thanks for dropping in. Yes, I think that telekinesis could come in very handy. :)
@Victoria--I hope you enjoy the book and look forward to your feedback.
@Jamie--Sometimes the psychic stuff is cool. Other times, like at the haunted house, it was annoying. One time I was pulling an all nighter, studying for an Organic Chemistry exam. Not my best subject. I tried to take a little power nap on the sofa in our living room with my mini-dachshund. Just as I was drifting off to sleep, I heard her footsteps (she paced the hallway and living room each night) and my dog started going nuts. Whining, shaking. I shook myself awake, said, "Look I need to be ready for this exam tomorrow. Could you please go away, just for tonight?" The steps walked away from me, down the hall and stopped. The dog settled down. I aced the exam.
@Penny--Receptivity varies from person to person within families. My brother is clairvoyant. He saw the ghost. A former green beret, it took him a while to accept his gift. I'm clairaudient. I have ridiculously good hearing (think dog) and hear the ghosts--if they want me to hear them.
@Pamela--Hey! I know you! Thanks for coming by. You have great books. Anytime you want a story from me, let me know.
@Tanya--Oooer! A vamp lover. My buddy Laura Kaye and I had a debate a couple of weeks ago on my blog on vampires vs werewolves. The pack came out to defend its reputation. LOL! Hope you like KISS OF THE SILVER WOLF. I call it my werewolves meets X-files story. ;)
@Trisha--Thank you for your kind words. I was thinking coffee and getting my house cleaned would be terrific! LOL!
Hugs to all,
Sharon

@Loni--Thanks for stopping to comment in on your way to the MRW meeting. ;) Yes, isn't this a great place? EJ's website and her YA books are super.
ReplyDelete@BLHMistress--Nicola Martinez is the very talented artist who created this cover for my story. When I first saw it, it took my breath away. :) Oh yeah, Leonardo would be hawt! LOL
@Laurie--All the good paranormal peeps are here! Great to see you. We can still lust after David McCallum now on NCIS. YAY!
@Judy--Thank you for your kind words. Yeah, that cover is full of awesome sauce. ;)
Hugs to all,
Sharon
What a great interview, Sharon. I love the connection you have to the paranormal, particularly with the haunted house. You have some great stories to tell. Good luck with your newest release and with your new agent! Wishing you many sales.
ReplyDeleteWow! Sharon you sure do have a lot of letters after your name. I am humbled and thoroughly impressed. Kiss of the Silver Wolf sounds fantastic. Definitely one to be added to my TBR list! Cheers, my friend! ajnuest@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI had a crush on David McCallum also. I sent off for a picture from the cast of Man From UNCLE when I was young, and they sent me one. I was sooo excited. Your book sounds interesting, I guess I will have to read it to figure out the reference to a Silver Wolf. stormvikki at aol
ReplyDeleteGreat interview. Sounds like a really good book. I look forward to reading it. Thanks for sharing!

Sharon -
ReplyDeleteWonderful interview! It's so neat to have confirmation (even if we don't need it to believe) that ghosts exist and people really do have paranormal abilities. {BTW - I LOVE NCIS.}

@Diane--Thanks for coming by and checking out my interview. And thanks for your kind wishes. You'll never look at me the same way again at MRW meetings now. LOL!
ReplyDelete@AJ Neust--Some people say all those letters after my name are because I couldn't decide what to be when I grew up. Haha. Jokes on them. I'm NEVER growing up. LOL! I hope you enjoy the read. I'm checking you out on CTR today. :)
@stormvikki--You got a photo?? I'm so jealous! I would have had it on my mirror and petted it everyday. LOL. Ahhh the Silver Wolf but one of the secrets within secrets in Eden KY. ;)
@donnas--Thank you for your kind words. I hope you enjoy it.
@Lea Ellen--Thank you for coming by and all your great PNR author support. You are da bomb. Oh, yeah, ghosts are real. Not all are interactive. Some are just like Lincoln's funeral train, like a continuous video loop that keeps going on and on. Others are stuck, like the lady in my house. She really liked my brother because he could see her. He fled the house to get away from her. She literally was trying to get under his skin. Spooky. She never did that to me. LOL.
@sasluvbooks--Thank you! I hope you love this shifter story. I'm so lucky that my cover artist gave me such a beautiful image to go with my story.
To all--FYI--KISS OF THE SILVER WOLF is book 1 in a trilogy. Book 2 (work in progress) is KISS OF THE VIRGIN QUEEN and Book 3 will be KISS OF AN AVENGING ANGEL.
I'd love to have feedback from everyone who reads KISS OF THE SILVER WOLF so I know what worked or didn't work for them as readers. That way I can do a better job with the sequels.
Big hugs to all,
Sharon
